Diethylpropion HCl 75mg used in people who are significantly overweight (obese) and have not been able to lose enough weight with diet and exercise alone. Losing weight and keeping it off can reduce the many health risks that come with obesity, including heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, and a shorter life. Take this medicine by mouth with a glass of water. Follow the directions on the prescription label. Take this medicine 1 hour before meals. If a meal is missed, do not take that dose. An additional tablet may be taken in the mid evening if needed for night time hunger.
Do not take your medicine more often than directed. It is not known how this medication helps people to lose weight. It may work by decreasing your appetite, increasing the amount of energy used by your body, or by affecting certain parts of the brain. This medication is an appetite suppressant and belongs to a class of drugs called sympathomimetic amines. The dosage is based on your medical condition and response to therapy. Your doctor will adjust the dose to find the best dose for you. Use this medication regularly and exactly as prescribed in order to get the most benefit from it.
To help you remember, take it at the same time(s) each day. Talk to your pediatrician regarding the use of this medicine in children. Special care may be needed. While this medicine may be prescribed for children as young as 16 years for selected conditions, precautions do apply. Diethylpropion drug may be habit-forming. Do not take a larger dose, take it more often, or for a longer period than your doctor tells you to. Call your doctor, health care or pharmacist if diethylpropion loses its effect. Keep all medications away from children and pets.
